COMM 210 Introduction to Teaching the Bible (3)
An introduction to the art and science of public speaking and presentation. Various forms are studied and practiced by students. Special attention is given to devotional speaking and teaching in a church context.

ENGL 60 Communications I (NC)

This course builds vocabulary, improves spelling, develops telephone etiquette, and corrects grammar slips. It is designed for pastors, secretaries, and church staff members.

ENGL 095, 096, 097 Pre-college English Composition (NC)
These courses prepare students to be successful in English 121, 122, and 123 by focusing on grammar, sentence construction, and paragraph construction.

ENGL 121 Writing 121 - Exposition (3)
This course introduces the writing of expository essays. It emphasizes sentence and paragraph development, short essay formation, and revision of written work.

ENGL 122 Writing 122 - Logic and Style (3)
This course emphasizes logical, effective argumentative prose. Critical thinking, organization of material, and revision of written work will be emphasized.

ENGL 123 Writing 123 - Research Writing (3)
This course covers the acquisition and evaluation of evidence for writing research papers. The appropriate processes and forms for developing research papers will also be addressed.

Development of skills in listening to and understanding different styles of music with an emphasis on the changing components of Western art music.

A study of the United States geography and its impact on its history from pre-colonial times to the present. Includes a survey of political geography.

GEOG/BIBL 314 Historical Geo of the Holy Land (3)
A study of the geographical features of the Holy Land with emphasis on the interrelation of the people and events in the Bible with their locations within the topography and geography of the land. Includes examination of the economic, and military factors that influenced the settlement of the land.

HIST 101 Western Civilization I (3)
A survey of history from 800 to 1750. Attention is given to the political, military, economic, and cultural aspects of medieval and early modern civilizations, including the development of the concept and structure of nations. Emphasis is given to religious aspects of history in this time period, including the relationship between Church and State.

HIST 102 Western Civilization II (3)
A survey of modern history from 1789 to the present. Attention is given to the political, military, economic, intellectual, and cultural aspects of modern civilizations. Emphasis is given to religious aspects of history in this time period, including world wars and the changing relationship between Church and State.

HIST 320 Early Church History (3)
An overview of the development of the Christian church from its origin through the Reformation period including major institutions, leaders, and literature.

HIST 325 American Church History (3)
An overview of the development of American religious life, giving the backgrounds of Methodist, Baptist, Adventist, and Holiness groups. The impact of the US Civil War on church structure and life will be examined, as well as the relationship of other cultural, economic, and political shifts to the development of the American church. Emphasis is given to the history of the Pentecostal and charismatic movements.

MATH 110 Contemporary Math (3)
A foundational course. Emphasis is upon application of math to everyday problems, developing reasoning ability, and using technology appropriately. Topics include problem solving techniques in algebra, geometry, consumer applications, probabilities and statistics.

PHED 110 Aerobics and Wellness (3)
This class teaches a lifestyle approach to fitness and wellness, emphasizing the health benefits of aerobics. Includes required aerobic activity and weight training along with a focus on lifestyle and fitness components of health and wellness.

PHIL 220 Introduction to Philosophy (3)
This course is an introductory study that provides a basic understanding of the nature and aims of philosophy.

PHIL 270 Ethics (3)
This course provides an introduction to a variety of ethical theories and systems. Instruction in formulating alternative perspectives for ethical analysis and decision making will be emphasized.

PHIL 350 World Religions (3)
This course compares the major non-Christian religions of the world. Emphasis is given to the cultural origins, development, forms, and symbols. Particular attention is given to the encounter of the Christian faith with these religions.

PSYC 101 Psychology 101 (3)
This course acquaints the student with the science of human behavior, including the process of growth, learning, perception, sensation, personality, and emotion.

PSYC 102 Psychology 102 (3)
An in-depth study of the overall concepts of psychology, including biological processes in development and behavior, perception, learning and memory, motivation and emotion, personality and adjustment, and social behavior.

PSYC 110 Freshman Seminar (3)
A course providing students with the self-awareness, academic skills, and individual direction to succeed within the educational environment of a college. This course is structured to offer students practical, proactive approaches to success within the classroom. Social skills will be addressed to aid the student in the transition to college and vocation. Can be waived if student transfers in with at least 45 QCH and a GPA of at least 2.50.

PSYC 220 Spiritual Growth & Personality Dev (3)
This course includes a study of spiritual formation as it is affected by personality, both in the individual believer and in the local congregation, including a study of personality and spirituality interventions through the spiritual disciplines. Students will create a person spiritual formation roadmap based on their personality and a vision analysis of their possible future selves. PRE-REQ: CMIN 110, PSYC 101, and PSYC 102.

PSYC 310 Childhood & Adolescent Issues & Intervention (3)
This is a study of major issues affecting children, adolescents, and their families. Includes an introduction to the issues of trauma and abuse, child care, dissolution of the family, juvenile delinquency, effects of poverty on children, and issues of dependency including foster care, adoption. Age-appropriate intervention strategies will be introduced to assist in working with children in effective ways with special attention to spiritual formation issues. PRE-REQ: CMIN 110, PSYC 101, and PSYC 102.

SCIE 120 Physical and Earth Science (3)
An introduction to the fundamental behavior of matter and energy, including the basic concepts and key ideas that govern the principles of the natural world. Gives opportunities for students to learn reasoning skills and a new way of thinking about their physical environment.

SCIE 320 Anatomy and Health (3)
Survey of the design and functions of the human body. Includes overview of cell biology, tissue, and membrane functions and continues with the skeletal, muscular, and nervous, integumentary, endocrine, circulatory, lymphatic, respiratory, digestive, renal, and reproductive systems. Emphasis is given to the relationship of anatomy systems to holistic health.

SOCI 101 Introduction to Sociology (3)
A study of social organization with a focus on organizations, institutions, and social forces that contribute to the formation and self-definition of a society. The development of social norms, culture, belief systems, and stratification are considered. Emphasis is placed on exploring the existence and perpetuation of social problems.

SOCI 120 Financial Concepts (3)
Study and application of elements of personal finance and the role that finance plays in personal discipleship.

SOCI 210 Introduction to Islam (3)
An introduction to the foundational beliefs, practices, historical and cultural development of Islam. Special attention will be given to the experience of Islamic people, including women, and the current tension between Islam and western culture.

SOCI 305 Group Dynamics (3)
A study of group theory, with particular attention to the role of small groups in the discipling process. The role of the leader, spiritual growth group facilitation, and strategies for dealing with particular group process issues will be emphasized. Participation in group process is required. PRE-REQ: SOCI 101.

SOCI 310 Cross-Cultural Field Experience (3)
Allows the student to experience and minister in a cross-cultural setting. The experience will train future leaders to organize trips and lead teams of their own upon graduation. PRE-REQ: SOCI/CMIN 260.

SOCI 320 Global Area Studies (3)
An integrative course specifically designed to allow students to study the continents and discover the geography, historical development, religious and cultural development, and the spread of the Gospel and development of the Church.
